Dental Veneers in Houston, Texas

Improve Your Smile Easily

A beautiful smile can help you be more confident everywhere you go. But not all of us were born with perfectly straight teeth, and some of us have stains and chipped teeth. Veneers can make up for the imperfections in your smile and give you teeth that are ready for their close-up.

In just two or three visits, Dr. Mina Tadros, one of Houston’s best cosmetic dentists, can give you the straight, white teeth you’ve always dreamed of having with thin, porcelain veneers.

Veneers have many advantages, including:

  • The veneers are designed to match the color and shape of the teeth around them
  • They’re versatile, concealing almost any cosmetic flaw, from the shape, size, color or positioning
  • They don’t require any kind of special maintenance — brush and floss them just like you do for your natural teeth
  • Veneers are stain resistant and extremely durable

Should I Get Porcelain Veneers?

Veneers are incredibly thin, customized shells that can cover the front surface of a tooth. They are bonded to the tooth and have the ability to change the color, shape, size, and length of the front teeth.

Why Get Veneers?

Veneers can be used to solve a variety of problems. Veneers are most commonly used on teeth that are:

  • Discolored
  • Worn down
  • Chipped
  • Broken
  • Misaligned
  • Uneven
  • Irregularly shaped
  • Spaced out from neighboring teeth (veneers can close the gap)

Advantages

  • They look like natural teeth.
  • They make your teeth look whiter.
  • They do not irritate the gums.
  • They are relatively stain resistant.
  • They don’t require extensive shaping before the procedure. Veneers are a more conservative, simpler method of improving a tooth’s color and shape.

Disadvantages

  • It’s irreversible.
  • If they chip or crack, they can’t be repaired; make sure to be diligent with your oral care after getting veneers.
  • Because they replace the enamel on the teeth and are not as strong, some experience increased sensitivity to hot or cold foods and drinks.
  • Veneers are not for those with already unhealthy or weakened teeth (there is not enough enamel for the veneers to be bonded to).
  • Veneers are not for those who grind or clench their teeth, as this habit can cause chipping and cracking in the porcelain.

Should I Have My Teeth Whitened After Getting Veneers

Getting veneers is a giant, exciting step toward a brand new smile. Porcelain veneers can do so much, from correcting gaps and chips to camouflaging tooth stains — and all with a natural, aesthetically-pleasing look. If you’ve already corrected your smile with veneers, you’ve probably also thought about brightening it with a whitening treatment.

Here are some things to keep in mind before you make the decision to whiten:

  • If you are getting 8-10 veneers on both the upper and lower teeth, then you do not need to get your teeth whitened as no natural teeth will be showing. You are free to choose a veneer color that is your “goal” white shade.
  • If natural teeth will be showing, then a whitening treatment is something to consider. It is imperative to whiten before receiving veneers, however, as the shade of white you achieve will be the shade that is used to find a matching veneer color.
  • Once the veneer is applied, it will resist staining, but it will also resist whitening treatments. This would be frustrating if you decided to whiten your natural teeth after receiving your veneers, as you would end up with two different shades.

Getting a whiter smile along with a straighter one is absolutely doable with veneers, but it would be wise to consult with Dr. Tadros before making that decision. Using our Opalescence Boost teeth whitening treatment, he can help you reach the most natural shade of white for your smile.
